Americans in highly vaccinated states should feel free to live like Danes.

Stop using a mediocre national vaccination rate as an excuse for maintaining onerous measures in your states.

Whenever Nordic countries announce they are lifting all Covid restrictions, some Americans start sulking and basically saying, “Why can’t we have nice things?” They generally point to a somewhat low national vaccination rate — indeed, the U.S. is in a worse place as a whole compared to many other countries — and lament that, if only Americans could be more responsible, they could ride mask-free trains to mask-free concerts like Danes and Swedes. A couple examples:

While it is true that “Denmark is not America,” many U.S. states have comparable vaccination rates to Nordic countries lifting all of their Covid restrictions — including masks — this month.
