The Nordic countries offer a rational path forward.

Americans continue to test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 a lot. A lot.

A recent NPR graphic encouraged Americans to test before outdoor activities with an illustration of a masked host standing outdoors and asking her guests (friends and family?), “Can I see a photo of your negative test?”

Picnics aren’t a big deal, though they bring people a lot of joy and happiness. If an asymptomatic positive test leads to someone missing a few rounds of hot dogs and Bud Light, oh well. What I’m most worried about is young people missing out on transformational educational and social experiences because of a little viral debris in the nose or a scratchy throat.

This is happening.

For example, a program for gifted high school students in Georgia was majorly disrupted by Covid-19 testing no longer recommended in many countries.

Organizers of a summer program for high-achieving Georgia high school students have restricted on-site access and canceled a gathering this weekend after a COVID-19 outbreak…
