Top domestic policy advisor demanded school closures in New York.

It’s interesting to look back at how powerful and influential people were discussing schools during the chaotic days of March 2020. Ambassador Susan Rice — who has served as Director of the United States Domestic Policy Council since 2021 — was unambiguous when she demanded then-Governor Andrew Cuomo shutter New York’s schools in a tweet on March 15, 2020.

“Tough as it is, it’s a must,” Rice tweeted at Cuomo.

In response, Amy Bernstein — who identifies on her Twitter profile as a California artist and writer — correctly noted that school closures would entail serious consequences for the most vulnerable children: homeless children living in shelters would have nowhere to go and many families would be forced to conscript grandparents as carers.
