Tentative Dutch education plan always keeps schools open, but students switch to hybrid in severe situation.
Agreement between unions and government still necessary.
The Dutch press is reporting that teachers’ unions and government ministers are hashing out a plan for Covid-19 measures during the next school year, which emphasizes keeping child care centers and schools open regardless of virus transmission, but pivots to problematic hybrid instruction in the worst-case scenario.
“The previous Cabinet decided several times to close childcare and education. An important change in the starting point of this Cabinet is that we want to prevent a closure of these sectors at all times,” the newspaper quoted from the document.
According to the tentative plan, which has the support of most teachers’ unions, there would be four color-coded scenarios for schools.
Dark Green: Basic measures, such as attention to ventilation.
Green: Basic measures, such as ventilation, and extra attention devoted to the safety of vulnerable students and teachers.
Orange: Measures such as social distancing, face masks (presumably only for secondary students in hallways or when not seated), hallway arrows, staggered breaks, and cancellation of extracurricular activities.
